Summer Vacation

I heard from Erinn at parentingourchildren.com this morning. She wrote today asking for ideas as to where you like to take your kids on trips. One of my favorite vacations for the kids and I is Yellowstone National Park. We always have such fun there!
The last time we went, summer of 2005, we took all of the side roads we could find while driving through the park. We didn’t even make it to Old Faithful because we found so many other entertaining sites and took so many mini hikes! We found a hot pot that is so hot that when you throw a rock in it, you can watch it dissolve almost on impact. We found a spot near the river that has a hot spot bubbling up on the side. It’s so hot that the rocks around it burned my feet through my flip flops, yet the river is normal temperature all around it. We also pulled off the road at one point and got so close to a buffalo that we could have touched it had we been brave enough. We saw a heard of elk that is the biggest I have seen so close up. My advice is to always take the road less traveled when in Yellowstone!
We also love to stay in West Yellowstone, if we’re doing the hotel thing, so we can get a room with a pool near the Playmill Theater. The last show we went to was Secret Garden. I have also taken them to The Little Barbershop of Horrors. This August we are going to camp in West Yellowstone at the Madison Campground, see the sites, and attend the theater again. The show we are going to see this year is See How They Run. Note: The Playmill’s website seems to be down a LOT, so bookmark playmill.com and check back later if you have a hard time linking to it today, like I do. Argh!
Anyway, that is our August vacation this year and I’m really looking forward to seeing what there is to see there. We always find something new! I’ll make sure to take lots of pictures and share them with you.
Happy Travels!
